Shillong, Aug 14: Mawlyngngad SC fought from being 3-1 down to draw 3-3 against Diengpasoh SC in Group D of the Shillong Sports Association’s U-20 Fourth Division at First Ground, Polo, here today.
However, the other scheduled match, between Laitkroh SC and Mawkriah West SC had to be abandoned due to heavy rainfall, which left the ground waterlogged, and will be completed at a later date.
Although the ground is under the custodianship of the SSA, the new artificial turf there has been laid by the state government. However, an outlet to drain away surface water has not been completed, putting football held during the monsoon at risk.
Meanwhile, in the match that actually did happen, Banpynkmen Kharsati scored the second hat-trick of the season for Diengpasoh, netting goals in the 14th, 19th and 39th minutes.
By the time he was done, Mawlyngngad had only managed one goal, through Nathaneil Kharbyngar (23′). However, in the second half, they were able to get back on level ground with Badonbok Mawthoh (54′) and Kharbyngar (62′) scoring.
This was the first point for either side as they had both lost their respective opening fixtures.
