Shillong, Sep 8: Damaitphang Lyngdoh has parted ways with Bengaluru FC and has joined Shillong Lajong FC on a two-year deal, it was announced today.

Lyngdoh had represented Meghalaya in the Sub-Junior National Football Championship before joining Bengaluru in 2017.

The 19-year-old midfielder had worked his way up from Bengaluru’s U-15 side to the U-18s, Reliance Foundation Development League, BFC reserves in the Bangalore league and All India Football Federation’s Junior League before graduating to play with the first team.

His senior team experience includes the Durand Cup 2021, AFC Cup that same year and three Indian Super League appearances in 2021-22. The Umlyngka native was named Bengaluru’s Upcoming Player of 2020-21.

However, with competition for a place in one of the top clubs in the country so fierce, the diminutive Lyngdoh wasn’t able to cement a position in Bengaluru; all the AFC Cup and ISL appearances were as a substitute and, though he was in the squad, he wasn’t called on in the 2022-23 season.

Still only 19, he has scope to make it big and perhaps a spell in the I-League will be just what he needs to help him get there.
