Shillong, Oct 12: Meghalaya will send athletes to take part in just seven disciplines at the upcoming National Games, which will take place in Goa from 25th October.

The men’s football team will make up the state’s largest contingent, while there are just a handful of other athletes who will represent Meghalaya in athletics, swimming, wushu, judo, shooting and golf, the latter which will take place in New Delhi.

Meghalaya State Olympic Association General Secretary Finely Pariat said that the brightest hopes of a medal lie in the football team. The state didn’t win any medals at last year’s edition in Gujarat.

Although Meghalaya has been investing in testing of youngsters to identify those with a potential for sporting success, the fruits of that are some way off in the future.
