Shillong, Dec 13: Mawtawar SC finished the group stage of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2023 in fine fettle with a 2-0 win against Nongkrem SC at First Ground, Polo, here today.
With this victory, in the only match of the day, Mawtawar secured first place in Group A with 13 points. They started with a 3-2 loss to eventual second-placed team Sohryngkham SC but then went on to win four and draw one of their remaining fixtures. Mawtawar have also scored more goals than anyone else, including at least two in every game.
One goal was scored in either half today by Ricky Chyne (39′) and Elnathan Wahlang (83′).
Nongkrem stay fourth in the table but are destined to drop one place after tomorrow’s match between Sohiong SC and Jongksha SC whatever result that game throws up.
