Shillong, Feb 7: The Sports Authority of India’s Shillong centre will hold trials from next week onwards in archery, athletics, boxing, judo, karate and football.

All the trials will be held at SAI Shillong’s NEHU campus and are open to boys and girls between 12 and 18 years of age (15-18 years for football). Football is only for boys but the other four sports are open to both sexes. (The residential intake for archery is only for boys, however, the non-residential is open to boys and girls.)

Selection of athletes will be done on the basis of sports performance and potential based on merit and performance based on achievements in recognised competitions – district, state, national and international – and through a battery of tests as per their age and skill tests, including aptitude and attitude, a SAI press release said.

Candidates should bring two recent passport size photographs, Aadhaar card and an attested copy of their birth certificate issued by a municipality, CHC/PHC, school and any sports achievement certificates.

To be eligible, athletes should be between 12 and 18 years as on 1st February 2024 for individual sports. For team disciplines, athletes should be between 10 and 14 years on 1st February 2024 or 15 to 18 on 1st February 2024. Relaxation of the age criteria will be applicable for those who are judged to have special potential.

For individual sports, they should have been among the first three position holders of district championships, inter-education district-level competitions, championships held by confederations of public schools, CBSE, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, PYKKA, etc. For team sports, the athletes should have participated at least in a recognised state-level competition organized by state sports associations, state sports council, national school games or state sports departments.

All those coming for the trials must produce a medical fitness certificate from a recognised medical practitioner.

Admission to SAI will only be confirmed after proper age verification and medical examination.
