Shillong, Mar 27: Nongdawah CC won their match in the 3rd East Khasi Hills Cricket Association District League by a solitary run against Pomshutia CC in Smit today.
The other match was more of a breeze for Cricket Lovers CC, who defeated Lumpaia Avengers CC by seven wickets.
The second match went down to the wire, with Pomshutia, chasing Nongdawah’s total of 126/6, finishing their 20 overs on 125/6.
The day began promisingly for Pomshutia, who won the toss and chose to field first. Pynshaitbor Nongpluh (pictured right) top-scored with a half-century (50 from 46 deliveries) for Nongdawah in their total of 126/6 even as Aristerwell Suting claimed 2/21 in 4 overs with the ball.
In reply, Shembhalang Pyngrope (54 from 58) and Aristerwell (31 from 42) gave Pomshutia plenty of hope but, ultimately, a dramatic end saw them finish one run short of a tie and two short of victory. Rilanstar Dkhar bagged 2/30 in 4 overs, while Pynshaitbor was named Player of the Match.
Earlier, Cricket Lovers won the toss and also decided on fielding first. Lumpaia Avengers were restricted to 80/6 in a reduced 12 overs. Ralphy Diengdoh made over half the team’s runs in an innings of 43 from 36 balls. Mewankitbok M Kharpuri (pictured left) was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 4/16 in 3 overs.
In reply, Cricket Lovers rattled off their 86 runs for the loss of three wickets in 11.4 overs, led by Rohit Yadav’s smashing 53 from 30 balls. Ralphy chipped in with 2/22 in 3 overs with the ball but Mewankitbok was named Player of the Match for his fine bowling in the first innings.
