Shillong, May 5: The Meghalaya team that is taking part in the inaugural U-20 Men’s National Football Championship, an All India Football Federation tournament, will leave Shillong for Narainpur, Chhattisgarh on Tuesday.

A send-off by the Meghalaya Football Association was held for the 18-member squad and three officials – led by the state’s hugely successful youth coach Jeffrey Warlarpih – here yesterday.

The championship, named after Swami Vivekananda, began in April. It is being held in stages so as to accommodate all the teams in the one venue. A total of 32 states are participating in the championship, the final of which will be played on 22nd May.

Meghalaya have been slotted in Group F with Rajasthan, Mizoram and Maharashtra. The winners of this group will take on the top team from Group G in the fourth quarterfinal on 18th May.
