Shillong, May 24: Sunrise Academy (pictured) and BK Bajoria won the U-15 and U-18 titles in the Shillong Cricket Association’s inter-school tournaments earlier this week.
Sunrise Academy defeated St Edmund’s on a rain-affected U-15 final, while BK Bajoria defeated St Xavier’s in the U-18 title match.
St Edmund’s won the toss and, batting first, posted 107/3 in 15 overs, with Mannan Surana leading the way with 65 from 41 deliveries. Rohit Sharma managed 2/15 in 3 overs.
In reply, Sunrise Academy were only given 4 overs as rain ruined much of what should have been their innings and they finished on 33 without loss, giving them victory by 4 runs according to the DLS Method. Sparsh Sewa scored 30 from 16 balls while Rohit was named Player of the Match.
Meanwhile, St Xavier’s also won the toss and chose to bat in the U-18 final but were restricted to 84/7 in 15 overs, with 47 from 50 by Alok Kar being the high score. Jeetu Paul claimed 2/8 in 3 economical overs.
In the chase, BK Bajoria were in a perilous position having lost nine wickets but squeaked over the line off the last ball. Anish crafted 21 from 24 to win the match, while Abhishek’s 3/15 was in vain. Jeetu was the Player of the Match.
