Shillong, Jul 21: There were wins for Lummawbah SC, Mawlynrei SC, Them Rangshken ACC and Pynthorbah SC in the Shillong Sports Association’s U-20 Fourth Division 2024 at Polo Ground here yesterday.
Them Rangshken were the biggest winners, ending the group stage the way they started it, with a 5-0 victory, this time against Mawklot SC in Group D. Pynthorbah held off a second half charge by Laitlulong SC to win 3-2, also in Group D, while Mawlynrei came from behind in Group C to defeat Golf Link SC 3-1.
The first fixture of the day was a walkover for Lumpyngngad, as their opponents Mawreng SC didn’t report for the match. Both sides had been winless throughout the season and occupy the bottom two places in Group A.
Golf Link then took an early lead via Ribanshan Wahlang (3′) but Mawlynrei were able to equalise at the end of the first half thanks to Banjop Thabah (35’+2) before then taking the lead and going on to win the match with goals by Banteilang Sohlang (45′) and Banjop Dohling (70’+5).
Them Rangshken then cruised to victory over bottom side Mawklot with Stambok Kurbah (6′, 54′), Rostar Thabah (18′), Gilbert Kurbah (20′) and Ksanbor Warjri (59′) all getting on the scoresheet.
The last match then saw Pynthorbah take an early two-goal lead, probably helped by Laitlulong being unable to warm-up properly after reaching the ground late. The first goal was a penalty scored by Rishan Nongkyndah (7′) and Jwier Kharkongor doubled the lead in the 10th minute. Raymond Kharkongor (34′) then made it 3-0 before half time.
That should’ve been it but Laitlulong, who had been tied for third place before today with Pynthorbah, fought back, first scoring via an own goal by the opposition in the 41st minute before Ontonas Nongsiej (63′) score with less than 10 minutes left on the clock. Pynthorbah held on and moved up to provisional second place in Group D.
