Shillong, Jun 4: The State-Level Chief Minister’s U-12 Football Tournament began at the JN Stadium here today, with three hat-tricks scored in the four boys’ and four girls’ matches.
East Khasi Hills are the defending champions in the boys’ division, while South West Khasi Hills won the girls’ tournament last year.
Twenty-four goals were scored in the four boys’ games, but the contests were closer in the girls’ division, with only 11 goals scored.
The hat-tricks on the opening day were scored by Pynbianglang Kharsyntiew for the West Khasi Hills’ boys’ team, who beat East Garo Hills 3-1.
Later Superson Lyngdoh put three goals past North Garo Hills as his side won 6-1. Alicestar Thangkhiew then scored a hat-trick against South West Garo Hills in his team’s runaway 9-0 triumph.
