Shillong, Sep 12: Nongmensong SC and Lumparing SC both found themselves behind today but managed to win their respective matches in the Shillong Sports Association’s Third Division 2024 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
Nongmensong defeated Kharang SC 3-1 in Group A while Lumparing were 3-2 winners against Iaityllilang SC in Group B. These were the first defeats for Kharang and Iaityllilang this season.
Kharang went ahead via Jaspal Kurbah (32′) but a minute later Midul Amsong (33′) equalised and two second half goals from Pynshai Jyrwa (58′) and Wilton Lyngdoh (90′) gave Nongmensong victory.
Later, Marbianglang Mawlong (8′) provided a good start for Iaityllilang but Riskhem Syiem equalised in the 40th minute for Lumparing and then added a second goal in the 63rd minute for his side to take the lead. Sholinstar Syngli (66′) added another a few minutes later before Enewell Kurbah (78′) reduced the margin for Iaityllilang. Enewell became the 100th different scorer of the season.
Victory means that Lumparing move to the top of Group B for the moment with 9 points from four games. However, they can still be overtaken by Mawpat SC, who have a game to play, but have at least qualified for the quarterfinals by guaranteeing themselves a Top 2 finish in Group B.
Group A now has three teams on 6 points each. Pomlakrai have head-to-head advantage over Nongmensong, while Nongumlong are in the same position over Pomlakrai. However, Nongmensong have yet to meet Nongumlong. Therefore, taking goal difference alone into consideration, Nongmensong are in front of Nongumlong and Pomlakrai.
The Third Division will return on Saturday. Tomorrow will witness two Second Division matches.
