Shillong, Sep 18: Jongksha SC inflicted a 6-1 defeat on Laitlyngkot in Group B of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2024 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
The other match, also in Group B, saw Nongkrem SC come from a goal behind to beat Lumshyiap SC 2-1.
Jongksha have within the ranks several Shillong Premier League players who are in the Second Division team for whatever reason. One of these, Robert Khongjoh (pictured celebrating his second goal), bagged the lead in the sixth minute. Basuklang Bina (21′) and Wanlambor Kharumnuid (45’+2) also scored in the first half, while Iohbor Nonglyer (56’P), Robert (65′) again and Frangky Nongspung (87′) all found the back of the net in the second half.
Skhemborlang Majaw (47′) found a goal early in the second half but that was Laitlyngkot’s only success.
Later, Arki D Kharmalki got Lumshyiap’s nose in front in the 11th minute but Nongkrem responded with an equaliser late on the cusp of half time thanks to a penalty by Wilbert D Marbaniang (45’+3). Bhabokstar Shyrkon then won it for Nongkrem with a goal in the 81st minute. This was the first time this season that a team came from behind to win.
It was also Nongkrem’s second win, Jongksha’s first, Lumshyiap’s first loss and Laitlyngkot’s second.
