Shillong, Nov 11: Malki SC jumped up to first place in the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division 2024 at the completion of the fifth round of action by beating Mylliem SC 2-1 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
The other match of the day saw Sohryngkham SC let slip a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Lawsohtun SC.
Lamphrang Kharbuli (37′) and Fashioning Syngkli (84′) scored for Malki on either side of a 59th minute goal by Mylliem’s Kevin Kurkalang.
Malki’s win against a Top 3 side was a good result for them but they are only a point in front of second-placed Mawtawar SC, who are so far unbeaten. The two teams have yet to meet.
Meanwhile, Sohryngkham should be disappointed after they held a first half lead over Lawsohtun only to see it slip away in the second 45 minutes. Wallambha Kharpran (13′, 17′) scored twice in the first 20 minutes for Sohryngkham but Lawsohtun pulled level thanks to goals by Blashan Nongkynrih (76′) and Rangdajied Rynjah (78′).
Tomorrow will see the start of Round 6. At 12:15PM Umphyrnai SC will face Mawkhar SC followed by Nongkseh SC versus Pohkseh SC at 3:15PM.
