Shillong, Jul 24: Malki SC have parted ways with coach Kitkupar Kharshiing, TSR has learnt.

The club have had a less than successful start to this season’s Shillong Premier League, which marks Malki’s return after being banned for fan violence at the end of the 2018 season.

Kharshiing was named as Malki coach in March 2021. A former Meghalaya footballer, he took over from L Darlong.

Yesterday, Amit Rai, Darlong’s deputy in past years, stood in as coach as Malki lost to Shillong Lajong 1-0.

This SPL Malki have scored just three goals and have conceded 15, which is more than any other club. Other than a couple of seasoned campaigners, the squad is inexperienced and appear disjointed.

Apart from a 2-0 win over Mawkhar and a surprise goalless draw with Rangdajied United, Malki have lost heavily to Ryntih (3-0), Mawlai (4-0), Langsning (4-0) and Nangkiew Irat (3-1).

They lie in the relegation zone, in seventh place, with 4 points and will need to get a lot of work done if they are to lift themselves up the table when the second leg of the SPL begins in the first week of August.
