Shillong, Jan 22: Ri-Bhoi have secured places in both the women’s and U-17 boys’ finals of the football events at the 6th Meghalaya Games in Jowai.

They will meet East Khasi Hills in the women’s final and West Khasi Hills in the boys’.

The semifinal matches of both categories were held today at the Kiang Nangbah Stadium.

In the first match, held in the early hours of the morning, Ri-Bhoi triumphed over hosts West Jaintia Hills 2-0. The goals were scored by Daphisha Syngkli and Pynibha Rangthaluh.

In the second semifinal, EKH edged past South West Khasi Hills in a thrilling 2-1 encounter. Sanfida Nongrum was the star of the match, scoring both goals for EKH, while Darishisha Kharlyngdoh managed to score for SWKH.

The semifinal matches in the U-17 boys’ category both had to be decided by tiebreakers. Going goalless in full time in the first match, Ri-Bhoi yet again edged out WJH with a nail-biting 4-3 victory in the shootout. Later, WKH emerged victorious over SWKH in yet another thrilling tiebreaker, this time ending 5-4.
