Shillong, Feb 5: Meghalaya earned a further two medals in watersports today at the 38th National Games in Uttarakhand, with a silver in canoeing and bronze in rowing.
Indra Sharma (pictured left) won silver in the men’s canoe slalom C1 event, while the pair of Kiran Devi and H Anandhi (right) took bronze in the lightweight women’s double scull – a two-person row boat.
These medals follow on from Pynshngain Kurbah’s bronze in canoeing yesterday.
Indra is just 15 years old and has been simultaneously preparing for the Games as well as his board exams, which he will begin on 10th February, just three days after returning from Uttarakhand. His family has an agricultural background and he wakes up daily at 3:30AM to help with milking, feeding and cleaning the cows before training at the Whitewater Village in Umtham, Ri-Bhoi.
At the time of filing this report, with one silver and two bronze Meghalaya is now 29th out of the 30 teams that have won medals so far at the Games. A further seven teams have yet to win a medal.
