Shillong, Feb 6: Cricket Lovers and Cricket Smit won their respective matches in the 4th District League T20 Cricket Tournament 2024, organised by the East Khasi Hills Cricket Association, in Sohra today.
Cricket Lovers defeated Saitsohpen by 41 runs in the first match before Cricket Smit beat Mawryngkneng CC by five wickets.
Saitsohpen won the toss and chose to field first but the decision backfired as Cricket Lovers compiled a huge total of 187/7 in 20 overs, with Rohit Yadav top-scoring with a fine 51 from 54 deliveries. Ricky Surong was the pick of the Saitsohpen bowlers with figures of 2/23 in 4 overs.
In the chase, Saitsohpen did fairly well to post 146/9 in their 20 overs. Banraplang Pyngrope’s rapid 28 from 15 balls was the high score, while Mehraf Hussain Sarkar bagged 2/22 in 4 overs for the winners. Rohit (pictured left) was named Player of the Match.
Later, Cricket Smit won the toss and opted to field first as well. They were able to rumble Mawryngkneng for just 95 in 18 overs, with Shankupar Kharbangar scalping 4/20 in 4 overs. The top score was just 19 from 26 balls by Damewanbiang Shadap.
In reply, Cricket Smit lost five wickets but chased down the required runs in 17.5 overs. Elbenroy Mawthoh (pictured right) made 45 from 44 and was named Player of the Match. Rahnam Nongspung took 2/15 in 4 very economical overs.
