Shillong, Mar 10: Okitlang Syiemlieh (pictured right) won the men’s 72km event at the Tsomgo Ultra Marathon 4.0 in Sikkim yesterday.
Ritibaiahunlang Jyrwa (pictured left), meanwhile, came third in the women’s 42km event. Their timing information wasn’t available at the time of filing this report.
Tsomgo Ultra is the only ultra race in Sikkim and runners pass through breathtaking landscapes of the Eastern Himalayas along the challenging route.
Okitlang received Rs 35,000 as prize money, while Ritibaiahunlang took home Rs 10,000.
Okitlang works in the Meghalaya Police and has found much success in ultra marathons. He was second in the 72km Mawkyrwat Ultra in 2018 and won the 100km race at the same event the following year. He has also represented Meghalaya at such events like the National Cross Country Championship in 2022. One of his most recent runs was at the Run for the Rhino 62km ultra marathon in Assam in December, which he won.
We have less information on Ritibaiahunlang but we do know that she also works in the Meghalaya Police and took part in the women’s 10km category at the 3rd Sohra International Half Marathon in September last year and the Assam Rifles Half Marathon in December.
