Shillong, Mar 22: Three Meghalaya kickboxers won title belts at the Kickboxing India League Pro Open Nationals in Siliguri recently.
Another two were runners-up and two more brought home bronze medals. The three winners each received cash awards of Rs 15,000 each.
The 17th to 19th March event was held under the aegis of the WAKO India Kickboxing Federation and the 11-member state contingent had been sent by the Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association.
The three winners from Meghalaya were Daniella I Wanda Mylliemngap (-60kg in K1 Rules) of Upper Lumparing, Juh Pa U Juh Nongtdu (-60kg in K1 Rules) of Nartiang and Fedrick Khongsit (-54kg Full Contact) of Laitkor Nongdaneng.
The two runners-up were Careen Judy Kharkamni (-52kg Full Contact) of Laitkor Nongdaneng and Ibankyntiew Iangrai (-48kg Low Kick) of Mawdiangdiang.
The bronze medallists were Shanlang Khongsit (-51kg Low Kick) of Umpling Donglum and Raymond Jyrwa (-48kg Low Kick) of Nongrah Nonglum.
The other kickboxers from the state who participated were Indahun Iawphniaw (-48kg Low Kick), Winningstar L Nonglait (-48kg in Low Kick), Shailesster Mylliem (-51kg Low Kick) and Obadaiah Kelphung (-54kg Full Contact).
The four female and seven male fighters were led by the MSKA General Secretary Fourwell Khongmalai and coach Bantiplang Khongwir.
The MSKA congratulated the kickboxers and expressed hope that they will go on to represent India at international events.
