Shillong, May 3: Wapung Higher Secondary School were named Overall Champions of the East Jaintia Hills District Level Inter-School Athletic Meet 2025 yesterday.
The school won 25 medals – nine gold, seven silver and nine bronze.
Sham Sham SS and Senraij Branch Upper Primary School, Mukhaialong, were champions of the U-14 boys’ and U-14 girls’ categories respectively.
The champion award for the U-16 boys’ and U-16 girls’ categories went to Wapung HSS and Sham Sham SS respectively, while Seinjait Tuber HSS took home the title for U-18 boys’ and San Shnong SS the corresponding U-18 girls’ crown.
Best Athlete awards were also handed out. In the U-14 age bracket, Kampher Dkhar (boys) of Sham Sham SS and Useful Kyndait (girls) of Seinraij Branch UPS Mukhaiailong were the awardees.
The U-16 awards went to Highbornson Muksor (boys) of Khliehriat Presbyterian SS and Naphishwa Dkhar (girls) of Seinjait Tuber HSS, while the U-18 awards were bestowed upon Ribait Bang (boys) and Budka Bang (girls), both of Seinjait Tuber HSS.
The winners of different events will represent East Jaintia Hills at the State Level Inter-School Athletics Meet scheduled to be held soon.
EJH Deputy Commissioner Shivansh Awasthi was the chief guest on the final day and called upon those who failed to win medals to not be disheartened but to come back stronger next year.
