Shillong, May 28: St Nanak Secondary School and Nongthymmai Nepali School won the U-18 and U-15 boys’ inter-school cricket tournaments for 2025, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association.
In the finals yesterday, St Nanak defeated St Anthony’s Higher Secondary by 16 runs while Nongthymmai Nepali beat BK Bajoria School by 49 runs.
In the U-18 final, St Nanak won the toss and chose to bat first, posting 117 all out in 20 overs. Ganesh Kumar Ray top-scored with a fine 77 from 67 deliveries, providing the vast majority of his team’s runs. Samelawan Nongkseh took 3/28 in 4 overs for the fielding side.
St Anthony’s were then dismissed for 101 in 18.3 overs, with Abhinav Khanal managing 34 from 45 balls. Binay Kumar Mahato claimed 4/18 in 4 overs for the St Nanak side. Ganesh was named Player of the Final.
In the other final, Nongthymmai Nepali won the toss and batted first. They went at around 7 runs an over to score 103/6 in 15 overs. Suraj Chettri hit 47 from 42 balls, while Samarth Pathak netted 3/11 in 3 overs.
In reply, BK Bajoria were bundled out for just 54 in 12.2 overs, with Kavinstar Sawkmie taking the best figures of 3/4 in 2 overs. Suraj, who also took two wickets with the ball in addition to his score of 47 with the bat, was named Player of the Final.
Dignitaries present on the last day included Meghalaya Cricket Association President Nababrata Bhattacharjee, former MCA Honorary Secretary Gideon Kharkongor and SCA President Peter M Kharsawian, among others.
