Shillong, Sep 23: Laitkyrhong qualified for the final of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2025 (and with it promotion to next season’s First Division) with a 2-0 victory against Mawpat in the second semifinal at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here today.
Samuel Suting converted a penalty in the 24th minute and Ebarlestar Pyngrope doubled the lead in the 30th with a shot from outside the box. The latter’s strike was the 150th goal of the season.
Early in the second half Mebanrikupar Rynjah missed a chance to make it 3-0 when he dragged a left-footer marginally wide of the mark.
Mawpat’s best came later on, with Thomson Lyngdoh (the club’s top scorer this year with 3 goals) skirting the top of the crossbar, while Diamselon Khongstia forced Laitkyrhong goalkeeper Honestar Khyriem into making a flying save in the 70th minute.
Laitkyrhong will meet Mylliem Lum in the final on Saturday. Kick-off will be at 4PM.
