Shillong, Nov 1: Monas Bongrung and Filinza Hansepi were the fastest man and woman respectively at the Run For Unity in Ri-Bhoi held yesterday.

The 5km race was organised by the office of the Superintendent of Police in collaboration with the district administration and District Sports Officer. It was held to mark the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, independent India’s first Home Minister.

The route went from Saiden Indoor Hall to the NSCA Indoor Hall at Umlyngkdait.

Monas won the men’s event in under 20 minutes, followed by Skhemlang Suba and Piku Nath in second and third respectively.

Filinza won the women’s category in 25 minutes, 16.71 seconds, less than 18 seconds ahead of the second-placed finisher, Jenny Ramde. Dakahi Kyndait was third.

There were also awards for the oldest runners at the race – Pel Bey and Snora Rani.
