Shillong, Feb 7: Nongthymmai Nongkynrih (pictured below) and Langsning (featured photo) won the Shillong Sports Association’s U-12 and U-14 Football Leagues respectively at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here today.

Nongthymmai defeated Shillong Lajong 4-0 while Langsning were 3-0 winners over Mawkhar.

The leagues began on 22nd January, with 20 teams in the U-12 competition and 23 in the U-14s. The youth tournaments were making a return after several years absence from the calendar. Both champion teams received Rs 20,000 as prize money, while the runners-up each took home Rs 10,000.

Nongthymmai scored three goals in the first half of the 60-minute match through Roniki Kharshandi (7′), Damewantei Kharkongor (21′) and Zevial Synrem (26′) before Dameteiskhem Lyngdoh (36′) added another in the second half as Nongthymmai completely dominated Lajong.

Roniki was the Top Scorer of the U-12 division with 20 goals in total. He was also named Player of the Final. His team mates Mewanshwa Kharpuli and Bashemphang Diengdoh were named Best Goalkeeper and Most Promising Player respectively.

The U-14 final, which was 70 minutes long, was a close contest in the first half, with only one goal from Langsning’s Nangteibha Mukhim (12′). Mawkhar had several set-pieces but couldn’t convert any of them, not least because of Langsning’s excellent goalkeeper Rohit Masynting. In the second half Nangteibha (51′) scored again a few minutes after team mate D Syiem (44′).

Nangteibha was named Player of the Final and Rohit the Best Goalkeeper. Evelkymio Mynsong of Langsning was judged to be the Most Promising Player, while Pay For Right Academy’s Habankara Blah bagged the Top Scorer award with a total of 12 goals. PFR had exited the tournament in the quarterfinal round after going down to Langsning.

Senior members of the SSA were present on the final day, led by President Banteidor Lyngdoh MLA.
