Shillong, Mar 27: Sputnik CC and Royal CC won their respective matches in the 1st Late PA Sangma Memorial T20 Tournament, organised by the Shillong Cricket Association, here today.
In Group A Sputnik defeated Sporting CC by 92 runs while Royal CC were seven-wicket victors against Donkin CC in Group D.
Sputnik had a fantastic time with the bat, scoring freely for a grand total of 248/4 in 20 overs after winning the toss and batting first. Kshitj Singhania batted beautifully for his 90 from 46 deliveries, while Amiangshu Seng made 48 from 33. Not too many bowlers escaped punishment but Indrajit Rai (1/35 in 4 overs) and Laxman Gurung (1/25 in 3) came off relatively unscathed.
In response, Sporting batted decently but were well short of the target, finishing their 20 overs on 156/6. Rohit Kumar Yadav top-scored with 58 from 47 deliveries, while Avinash Rai made a run-a-ball 49. Among the bowlers, Chaman Pushp took 2/6 in 2 overs and Mridul Das 2/6 in 1 over. Kshitij was named Player of the Match.
The other game saw Donkin win the toss and bat first but they were all out for 89 in 14.5 overs. Raj Biswa (2/11 in 4 overs) and Sidak Singh (2/20 in 4) were the most successful bowlers, while Donkin’s top scorer was Rohit Rai with 18.
Royal CC needed just 9.5 overs to complete the chase, reaching 93/3. Swastic Chettri made 39 from 30 balls and Sidak 21 from 12. Agreas Chamcham Sangma took 2/31 in 4 overs in a losing cause. Raj, who in addition to his two wickets also scored 16 runs, was named Player of the Match.
