Shillong, Apr 29: Mawlai SC suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Sunrise Club Orissa in their 2025-26 I-League 3 Group A match at the Khuman Lampak Stadium in Imphal today morning.
Sanjit Khora (22′), Arpan Lakra (66′) and Arbin Lakra (80′) scored for Sunrise and Wadshwa Latoo (65′) for Mawlai. Ricky Chyne was sent off with a red card in the 54th minute for a foul as the last defender as a Sunrise player broke forwards, which made life harder for the Shillong-based club.
This result was an exact reversal of Mawlai’s 3-1 win over Sikkim Brotherhood two days ago.
Mawlai coach Hering Shangpliang made just one change to the starting lineup from that match, bringing in Arkini Laloo for Shariwell Lyngdoh.
Sanjit received a through ball and beat one Mawlai defender and avoided another before slotting low past Mawlai goalkeeper Lambhamiki Lamare.
That was the only goal of the first half and Mawlai were put on the back foot early in the second half after Ricky’s sending off. If they were disadvantaged it didn’t look it at first, though, as they managed to equalise after a Damanbhalang Chyne corner was headed in by Wadshwa.
But that that uplift was erased just a minute later when a long throw-in was headed in by Arpan. Later, Arbin made sure of Sunrise’s win by timing his run well (though Mawlai players thought he was offside) to beat the defensive line and meet a chipped ball before putting it past Lambhamiki.
Mawlai will next face ARA FC of Gujarat on 3rd May at 9AM.
Mawlai squad today:
Lambhamiki Lamare (GK), Arkibor Makhroh, Arkini Laloo, Verjelous Shylla, Damanbhalang Chyne, Robertson Khongriah, Wadshwa Latoo, Samlang Rympei, Ricky Chyne, Fairming Suting, Basuklang Bina (sub Vincent Shyrmang 62′)
