Shillong, May 4: Shillong Lajong FC’s Indian Football League title hopes received a huge boost after Sreenidi Deccan beat leaders Diamond Harbour FC 2-1 at the latter’s home ground in Kalyani yesterday evening.

Brandon Vanlalremdika (44′) and David Castaneda Munoz (45’+4) scored for Sreenidi Deccan late in the first half, both with stunning shots from outside the box.
DHFC had had a man sent off in only the second minute with Sunday Kolawole Afolabi shown a direct red card for a harsh challenge. However, they were able to pull a goal back via a penalty in the 62nd minute from Hugo Diaz Rodriguez.
This is only the second match this season that Diamond Harbour have lost – incidentally the first was also against Sreenidi at the start of the IFL 2025-26.
The result means that second-placed Shillong Lajong (who beat Chanmari on Saturday) sit just 4 points behind the leaders with three games to go.
DHFC will host fourth-placed Rajasthan United on 8th May and Lajong will be at Sreenidi two days later. If SLFC can close the gap further after the 12th round, it will make the conclusion of the IFL season extremely interesting and the Lajong fans on tenterhooks.
