Shillong, Jun 14: Seven students of St Francis De Sales Secondary School, Laitkor, will take part in the Sub-Junior National Kickboxing Championship, to be held in Indore from 17th to 21st June.
The contingent comprises four girls and three boys who left for Madhya Pradesh on Sunday morning.
Dajied Kyrpang Synjri, of Laitkor Rngi, a ranking athlete in kickboxing, will represent the state in the event of Kick Light and Low Kick below 48kg. Both Zyarra Kharkongor and Bashanpaia Kharkongor from Laitkor Nongdaneng will take part in the event of Light Contact below 38kg and Kick Light below 40kg respectively.
Heilina Sad and Adiel Elhanan Marbaniang, one of the youngest kickboxers at just 8 years old, from Laitkor Mawrie, will take part in Light Contact below 42kg and Point Fighting below 28kg respectively.
Abigail Ridamaka L Pyngrope and Ribhadaker Bina from Mawlyngngad will take part in Kick Light below 40kg and Light Contact below 48kg respectively.
International kickboxer Daniella IW Mylliemngap is the coach of the state team.
A send-off was held at Hotel Assembly here, organised by the Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association, MSKA co-adviser Shaiborlang Lyngdoh Mawphlang appreciated the school authorities for enabling the young kickboxers to take part in this event by rescheduling their internal exams for them.
At the same time MSKA Honorary Working President Lorenzo Pearson Warjri requested parents that in case students need permission from school authorities to take part in kickboxing events they can approach the MSKA so that a matter can be taken up with the concerned school.
