Shillong, Aug 28: Meghalaya’s rising karateka Gideon Tympuin has been selected to represent India at the 24th Asian Karate Federation Cadet, Junior and U-21 Karate Championships 2026, which will be held in Amman, Jordan, next month.
The announcement was made by the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) today.
Gideon will participate in the U-21 men’s kata category at the 6th to 11th September event.
Gideon earned his selection following his gold medal-winning performance at the 5th KIO Senior and U-21 National Karate Championship 2026, held in New Delhi in February-March.
Adding to that achievement, Gideon also secured a bronze medal at the 10th Cadet, Junior, U-21 and Senior South Asian Karate Championship 2026, held in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in July.
“His selection to the Indian team is a proud and significant moment for Meghalaya and the entire karate fraternity of the state,” AMKA General Secretary Ksan Kupar Warjri said in the release. “The All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association congratulates Gideon on this remarkable achievement and wishes him the very best as he represents the nation on the international stage.”
Gideon is scheduled to leave for Jordan on 4th September.
