Shillong, Sep 7: A dramatic third quarterfinal of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2026 saw Smit overturn a one goal deficit to win 2-1 thanks to a couple of goals in stoppage time at the SSA Stadium here today.

Siewdor Nongbri netted for Lawsohtun in the 79th minute and the Group C winners were on course for a narrow victory until Pynshailang Kharsyntiew (90’+2) and Nathanial Kharbangar (90’+5) turned things around in sensational style. Smit had only qualified for the quarterfinals as one of the best third-placed teams from the group stage.

Over at the MFA Ground, in the Relegation Zone, Jongksha managed to survive for another season by sealing an 8-2 victory against Mawkriah West. They also came from a goal down to win.

Bishar Nongspung (32′, 80′), Babianghok Mynsong (37′, 45′), Wallambok Kharsahnoh (49′, 68′, 82′) and Khrawbhalang Songthiang (55′) were the scorers for Jongksha. Dibarson Kharbudnah (28′, 58′) scored a brace on what was a difficult day for Mawkriah West.

Jongksha had pummelled Lumshyiap 8-1 on Friday and with two wins they are safe for another season in the Second Division. This means that Lumshyiap and Mawkriah West (the latter which had only secured promotion to the Second Division this season) will drop down one rung in the SSA pyramid to the Third Division next year.
