Shillong, Jul 22: Ten Meghalayan karatekas won medals at the recent All India Karate Championship in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, with Rebeka Nongspung claiming the lone gold medal.
Twenty-seven karatekas in all from the All Meghalaya Karate-do Association took part in the two-day event, which concluded on 16th July.
The state contingent was led by Arjun Sewa and Edwilbert K Nongkynrih as coaches and Pynhunlang Kharbuli as manager.
AMKA karatekas won two silver and eight bronze medals to go along with the gold.
Nongspung bagged gold in the junior girls’ individual kumite -53kg category.
The two silver medallists were Cheltis Shylla (junior boys’ individual kumite -55kg) and Damanbha Pde (cadet boys’ individual kumite -50kg).
Glikerius Buhphang won two bronze medals in men’s individual kumite -60kg and men’s individual kata. The other bronze medallists were Saralin Rynghang (women’s individual kumite -50kg), Hymnson Challam (sub-junior individual kumite -40kg), Damebanmerbha Blah (junior individual kumite -50kg), Davyson Kharkongor (men’s individual kumite -50kg), Iohbor Mylliempdah (men’s individual kumite -55kg) and Paul Danny Kharmudai (junior boys’ individual kumite -55kg).
