Shillong, Oct 3: Jongksha SC smashed Lumshyiap SC 7-3 in Group B of the Shillong Sports Association’s Second Division 2024 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
The other match of the day, also in Group B, saw Nongkrem SC win 2-1 against Mylliem Lum SC.
Nongkrem went ahead in the 45th minute through Sawadame A Tang and then added a second in the 84th minute via Wilbert Marbaniang. Eliastar Nongsiej (90’+5) pulled one back in stoppage time (with what was the 100th goal of the season) but it was a little too late to mount a comeback.
Basuklang Bina (25′, 54′), Robert Khongjoh (33′), Pyniaidlang Songthiang (35′), Liberius Mynsong (43′) and Donboklang Lyngdoh (45’+1, 83′) scored for Jongksha. The club have been scoring so many goals that they average a whopping 5 per match.
Lumshyiap’s scorers were Arky Kharmalki (46′), Firstborn Iawphniaw (73′) and Banbishar Mawlong (90’+2).
Nongkrem have head-to-head advantage and are thus leading the standings, with Jongksha second.
There will be just one match tomorrow, in Group A, between Meghalaya Police and Smit SC at 2:45PM at First Ground.
Meghalaya Police and Laitkyrhong have 10 points each but the former have a better goal difference (they drew their meeting on 7th September, so head-to-head is irrelevant).
Whether Laitkyrhong keep second place (and with it a spot in the semifinals) depends on the result of tomorrow’s fixture. Smit (who do have head-to-head advantage over Laitkyrhong) only need a draw to take second while a win against the undefeated cops would take them to the top of the table.
For their part Meghalaya Police don’t have to do much as only a phenomenal loss (by a margin of 10 goals or more) would see them drop out of the Top 2.
