Shillong, Oct 5: Nongrah SC bagged the first victory of the Shillong Sports Association’s First Division 2024 by beating Sohryngkham SC 2-1 at First Ground, Polo, here today.
What had been scheduled as the season opener, between Pohkseh SC and Mawtawar SC, however, had to be postponed due to heavy rain that made the ground unplayable.
However, the wet weather had let up sufficiently for us to get a game later in the afternoon and Shanbok Marboh (15′, 84′) picked up a brace of goals for Nongrah before Wanlambha Kharpran (90’+5) lessened the margin of defeat with a stoppage time strike.
There are 10 teams in the First Division 2024 who will play each other once. There are no knockouts – whichever team at the top of the standings at the end of the round robin stage will be crowned champions. The other six teams are Mylliem SC, Mawkhar SC, Malki SC, Lawsohtun SC, Umphyrnai SC and Nongkseh SCC.
