Shillong, Aug 1: Rynjah avoided relegation from the Shillong Sports Association’s Third Division after securing a 3-1 victory over bottom side Imson in Group B at the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo, here today.
Rynjah were already ahead of Imson before today and just needed a draw to avoid the drop, while Imson needed to win.
Wanpynshai Lyngwi (20′, 22′) struck twice within a couple of minutes to hand Rynjah a huge advantage and Shemkupar Massar (85′) then made it 3-0 late in the second half.
There was the hint of a twist when Homily Mukhim (89′) pulled one back for Imson but there was too much to do in the time remaining and the bowed out with a fourth straight defeat.
There will be no Third Division matches until Monday.
