Shillong, Jun 13: Meghalaya’s Bankerlang Myrthong (pictured left) won a silver medal for India in the UWW Pankration & Amateur MMA Asian & Oceania Championship 2026, which was held in Da Nang, Vietnam, recently.

Pankration is an Ancient Greek combat sport that combines boxing with wrestling, akin to mixed martial arts (MMA).

Bankerlang participated in the U-20 57kg category at the 7th to 9th June championship.

One other fighter from the All Meghalaya Traditional Wrestling & Pankration Association (AMTWPA) took part, Francis RR Songthiang (senior 66kg category, pictured right). They were accompanied by Donny Ranee as their coach.

Both Meghalaya athletes displayed exceptional skill, determination, and sportsmanship while competing against top fighters from across Asia and Oceania, an AMTWPA press release said yesterday.
