Shillong, Jan 9: Aizawl FC have roped in a former Shillong Lajong coach – Stanley Rosario – to help them turn around their less than impressive 2018-19 I-League season, where they are currently placed 10th.
“The People’s Club is delighted that we can grab a hold of an experienced coach like Standly (that’s apparently his real first name, which TSR never knew). We hope that he will be a great impact to the team and turn things around for us,” Aizawl said as it announced the news on social media.
Rosario’s hiring came a couple of days after Gift Raikhan left the role as Aizawl coach just seven months into his contract. The 2016-17 champions will host Real Kashmir on 11th January.
Rosario has had plenty of different coaching jobs before. He was previously at Shillong Lajong, East Bengal, Mohun Bagan and United Sikkim and also has experience of being the assistant manager of the Indian national team.
He coached Lajong in 2009-10, the year that the club finished as runners-up in the Federation Cup as well as being relegated from the I-League after their first season in the competition.
The Bangalore-born Rosario holds an AFC Pro Licence.
This season Aizawl have only won two out of their 11 matches so far. They have yet to win on the road and have lost half of their six games at home.
