Shillong, Feb 26: Two mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from Meghalaya – Pynshngain Bareh and Benedict Lamin – won their fights in the X1 International in Dimapur recently.
The event was sanctioned by the National Federation of Mixed Martial Arts.
Lamin beat Joyraj Pegu of Assam in the flyweight category, while Bareh defeated Aloto Zhimomi of Nagaland in the strawweight. Both were by unanimous decision. Meanwhile, Wanraplang Nongspung was beaten by Anupam Malakar of Assam in the strawweight.
All of these three Meghalaya fighters were from Ray’s Combat Team.
There were also two other Meghalaya fighters from Happy Red Rooster and one from Ground and Pound – Echwa Phawa, Darren Kharshandy and Lamkordor Kharmyndai respectively. Unfortunately these three lost their bouts.
Coach Raymond Johny Kurbah of the eponymous Ray’s Combat Team told TSR, “We want to thank God and all the members who supported us, as well as parents, brothers, sisters and friends who supported the fighters.”
