Shillong, Apr 25: New Friends Union were anointed as champions of the Shillong Cricket Association’s Super Division after defeating Rangkynsai by 89 runs in the final here today.
While Rangkynsai reached the final by beating Nongmynsong on 20th April in the last-four stage, NFU were meant to face United XI in the second semi on 23rd April but, again, there was no intimation from the SCA on that match’s result.
Today NFU won the toss and made 180 all out in their allotted 40 overs after choosing to bat first. Purohit Mondol was the top scorer with 31, while Neetesh Sharma struck 26. Micky Lyngdoh (3/25) and Sanjay Lyngdoh (3/49) bagged three wickets each.
In response, Rangkynsai were bundled out for 91 in 25.4 overs. Pynhun Kharnabi eked out 13, while Mondol was the best of the bowlers with figures of 3/10. He was thus named man-of-the-match and also picked up the man-of-the-series award for which he received a cash prize of Rs 10,000 sponsored by Pioneer Adventure Tours.
The trophies for the champions and runners-up were awarded in memory of the late Ratanlal Singhania.
