Shillong, Dec 8: Meghalaya will host the inaugural edition of the Senior Nationals North East Zonal Championship for men and women in Shillong from 16th to 19th December.
Six states affiliated to the Basketball Federation of India – Meghalaya, Assam, Mizoram, Nagaland, Manipur and Tripura – will be taking part.
The purpose of the new format is to ensure the best participation from the various zones and help the lesser known states to strive to be part of the main championship, a press release from the Meghalaya Basketball Association said today.
A couple of the bigger basketball names who will be taking part are Lalrina Renthlei of Mizoram, a current national team player, and Birender Hudda of Assam, a former India basketballer.
The matches will take place at St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School. The first game will be at 8PM on 16th December. Entry for spectators will be subject to government Covid-19 protocols and restrictions.
