Shillong, Jun 21: Today’s match in the OC Blue Shillong Premier League 2021-22 between Mawlai SC and Shillong Lajong FC had to be abandoned after around 60 minutes due to water logging following torrential rain at Third Ground, Polo, here.
At the time, Mawlai were leading 1-0.
Donborlang Nongkynrih scored rather fortuitously when his cross in the 30th minute beat everyone, including the Lajong goalkeeper Rajat Paul Lyngdoh.
A hot and muggy afternoon turned cooler during the first half as drizzle fell but torrential rain in the second session ultimately spoiled the action.
Mawlai were the more physical of the two sides and enjoyed the better possession, with almost the whole of the first half played in Lajong’s side of the pitch. That being said, SLFC’s Sangti Janai Shianglong had arguably the best chance of the first half but volleyed over the crossbar from close range in the 40th minute.
According to SPL rules, the remaining half an hour will be played at a date to be set by the Shillong Sports Association.
Mawlai had won their opening game while Lajong narrowly lost theirs.
