Shillong, Aug 23: Fighters from the Meghalaya State Kickboxing Association won 11 medals at the WAKO India National Kickboxing Championship 2022, which concluded in Chennai yesterday.
The three gold medallists from the state were Teimiki Sungoh (men’s full contact -60kg), Sparkle Rynghang (men’s K1 -57kg) and Meranda Mukhim (women’s light contact -65kg).
Hame Shaniah Suiam (men’s point fighting -57kg) and Evangel Pohplet (women’s low kick -48kg) picked up silver medals, along with the trio of Suiam, Pynshrainmiki Rabon and Stephanson Lyngdoh in the men’s team point fighting event.
The Meghalaya bronze medallists were Jezerel Sangma (men’s full contact -51kg), Heimonmi Suchiang (men’s full contact -54kg), Ibadarishisha Mukhim (women’s full contact -48kg), Belldona Pakyntein (women’s low kick -52kg) and Khrawjutang Kharsyntiew (men’s K1 -57kg).
There were 24 kickboxers – 16 male and eight female – from Meghalaya who took part in the event.
The state’s fighters come from all over Meghalaya – Garo Hills, Ri-Bhoi, West Jaintia Hills, Eastern West Hills District, South West Khasi Hills and East Khasi Hills.
The contingent was led by Nathaniel Kurkalang as manager and Shaiborlang Lyngdoh as coach.
