Shillong, Oct 11: Three Meghalaya footballers have moved from plying their trade in the Shillong Premier League to Punjab, all for Minerva Academy FC.
Shano Tariang, Manbha Iawphniaw and Maxderidoff Wahlang (pictured left to right) couldn’t wait for the end of the SPL before heading off to new pastures.
Tariang arrived from Langsning FC, Iawphniaw from Mawlai SC and Wahlang from Rangdajied United FC. Both Iawphniaw and Tariang finished as joint top scorers of the SPL with 7 goals each, along with Donlad Diengdoh (also of Mawlai).
Minerva Academy FC are not to be confused with Minerva Punjab, the club that won the I-League in 2017-18. That team was sold by Minerva Academy owner Ranjit Bajaj and is now known as RoundGlass Punjab FC.
Minerva Academy play in the Punjab State Super Football League. Iawphniaw has scored several goals already for his new team, including a hat-trick against Namdhari Sports Academy on 29th September.
