Shillong, Mar 27: South Garo Hills District Cricket Association turned in another dominant performance to win the final of the Meghalaya Cricket Association’s U-14 Girls Inter District Cricket T20 Tournament 2023 in Nongstoin today.
SGH won by 129 runs against West Jaintia Hills DCA in the title match in the presence of senior MCA officials.
These teams qualified for the final by finishing as the top two in the group stage. SGH were the only representatives from Garo Hills, while the other teams comprised WJH, Shillong Cricket Association, East Khasi Hills CA and West Khasi Hills DCA.
SGH won three matches, with one being abandoned due to bad weather. WJH won two, lost one to SGH and had another abandoned.
After winning the toss, SGH batted first and enjoyed an amazing innings, making 206/1 in their allotted 20 overs. Shreya R Marak was out for 18 to Carieyoka Lyngdoh (1/68) but Tempali Basumatary and Kimtera D Sangma batted for the remaining 16.3 overs together.
Basumatary was the top scorer with 81 not out from 72 deliveries, an innings that included 10 fours, while Kimtera carried her bat in a stint of 56 not out from 60 balls (5 fours).
Only Anastesia S Shullai could reach double figures for WJH, eventually falling for 14, as SGH’s bowlers were too good on the day. Shreya claimed 3/6, Dejiansua M Sangma 3/20 and Kimtera 3/20 as WJH were all out for 77 in 18.2 overs. Kimtera was named Player of the Match.
The SGH girls dominated the performance lists for individuals, with Basumatary (223) and Kimtera (193) making the most runs and Shreya (11) taking the most wickets over the course of what was a very successful tournament.
