Shillong, Nov 30: Accommodation for thousands of athletes will be one of the biggest challenges at the 5th Meghalaya Games, which will be held in Tura for the first time, in January.
Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma and Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Shakliar Warjri held a meeting yesterday to review the preparations for the event.
Sangma said that the review considered the location of the venues, accommodation and other other factors, like security, water, electricity, food, materials, etc.
Accommodation was an issue at the 4th Meghalaya Games in 2022 and organisers will want to avoid a repeat this year.
The CM said that a full review with the Deputy Commissioners was held online and he added that they are on track for the Games.
“There are challenges, of course, because Tura does not have the necessary infrastructure to support almost 4,000 people who will be going, including the athletes and officials. But we are working on it and we are pretty sure that we should be able to make the necessary arrangements in time,” he said.
The government will hold another review meeting on 8th December in Tura.
