Shillong, Dec 20: The Shillong Sports Association’s First Division 2023 will begin on 9th January, it was announced yesterday.
Seven clubs are taking part this season – Laitkor SC, Mylliem SC, Mawkhar SC, Umphyrnai SC, Malki SC, Lawsohtun SC and Nongrim Hills SC.
Laitkor and Mylliem were promoted from the Second Division held in 2022. Mawkhar and Malki, meanwhile, were relegated from last year’s Shillong Premier League.
The first match will be between Laitkor and Malki at 2:15PM in the SSA Stadium at First Ground, Polo.
Like last year, only seven teams will be taking part in the First Division this season. There were nine teams that took part in 2019 and 10 in 2018.
Coaches of First Division clubs must have an AFC D Licence at the very least.
The champions will still receive Rs 1 lakh as prize money but the runners-up will see a boost, now getting Rs 50,000 compared to the Rs 40,000 from last season.
