Shillong, Jun 3: The Meghalaya State Olympic Association has expressed its shock and sadness over the death of Stadhi Nongrum, a sports administrator closely involved in tennis and other disciplines.
The MSOA’s executive council held an online meeting yesterday to mourn the loss of Nongrum, who hailed from Laitryngew. The association offered its condolences to the family of the deceased.
Those present at the online meeting included MSOA Working President John F Kharshiing, General Secretary Finely L Pariat, Treasurer Ksan Warjri and others.
The 48-year-old Nongrum was also an Executive Member of the MSOA and the attendees at the condolence meet recalled his hard work and dedication to the association as well as to tennis as the Secretary of the Meghalaya Tennis Association. It was in large part thanks to him that tennis was held successfully in the 2020 and 2022 Meghalaya Games as well as the North East Games in 2022, Kharshiing said.
The Meghalaya Tennis Association, through its President Andrew Simons, also expressed its grief on Monday, describing Nongrum as a “very warm, caring and jovial person” who worked hard to promote the sport in the state.
Outside of sport, Nongrum was an Assistant Executive Engineer in the state Public Works Department. He was a resident of the Dhankheti neighbourhood of Shillong and died on Saturday. His remains will be cremated at Laitryngew on Tuesday.
