Shillong, Jul 19: Mawkasiang SC soundly defeated Pommura SC 4-0 in their Group F match in the Shillong Sports Association’s U-20 Fourth Division 2024 at First Ground, Polo here today.
Also in the same group, Diengpasoh SC drew 1-1 with Lummawbah SC for the former to qualify for the pre-quarterfinals, while Nongkolew SC did the same by edging Riatsamthiah SC 2-1 in Group E.
It was the last outing for Mawkasiang and Pommura this season and nothing much was up for grabs except pride. Westernroy Nongrum (2′, 37′) scored a brace and Letmingthang Kipgen (57′) and Lalgouen Kipgen (68′) a solitary goal each. Pommura were reduced to 10 men towards the end of the match after their goalkeeper was adjudged to have handled the ball outside the box.
Although they created plenty of moves forward, Pommura were not accurate enough after getting into good positions and they finished the season without a single goal scored.
The other match in the group saw Lummawbah go ahead thanks to Khrawnam Nongkhlaw (6′) but Diengpasoh’s Shemphanglin Lyngkhoi (58′) equalised just before the hour mark. Diengpasoh have a game left and can finish no lower than second in the group.
In Group E, Riatsamthiah tasted defeat for the first time, with Nongkolew scoring via Shain Mujai (27′) and Pynshngain Mujai (55′). L Nongsiej (37′) was Riatsamthiah’s scorer. Nongkolew have guaranteed themselves a Top 2 finish with this win, so the other qualifying position remains up for grabs between Risa Colony SC and Riatsamthiah.
