Shillong, Jul 27: Umrynjah SC and Laitkroh SC both required penalties to win their respective pre-quarterfinal matches of the Shillong Sports Association’s U-20 Fourth Division 2024 at First Ground, Polo here today.
Umrynjah beat Thynroit SC 7-6 in the shootout after full time finished 1-1, while Laitkroh took their tiebreaker 4-2 against New Challenger SC after full time ended 2-2.
Mihsalan Kharjana (4′) gave Umrynjah the lead only for Cleofast Kshiar (68′) to equalise late in the 70-minute match.
Later, New Challenger took the lead first via Lamiki Mukhim (27′) only for Laitkroh to score twice in the second half thanks to Rishailang Myrthong (40′) and Robin Kurkalang (51′). New Challenger then equalised through Yesterroi Nongkynrih (70′).
Thynroit had qualified for the knockouts after topping Group A, while Umrynjah were the best of the third-placed teams (coincidentally also from Group A). In an ultra close group, the two plus second-placed Madanrting SC all had 8 points each. When Thynroit and Umrynjah met in the round robin stage they played out a goalless draw on 17th July.
Laitkroh, meanwhile, were Group D toppers, while New Challenger were third in Group B.
On Monday, Group B winners Umiew Maw U Sam SC will take on Group D’s third-placed team Pynthorbah SC at 1:30PM. Group E toppers Nongkolew SC will then face Group C third-placed team Mawlynrei SC at 4PM. Both matches will take place at First Ground.
