Shillong, Sep 6: Mawpat SC and Gorkha Association both enjoyed huge victories in their respective matches of the Shillong Sports Association’s Third Division 2024 at First Ground, Polo, here today.

Mawpat beat Krang SC 8-1 in Group B while Gorkha Association were 6-2 winners against Lumdiengjri SC in Group C.

Kordinus Kharkongor (18′, 63′, 65′, 70′) scored four goals for Mawpat, while his team mates Alanson Thangkhiew (8′), Jonathan Kharkongor (24′), Tolammamee Mylliempdah (83′) and Angelius Nongrum (87′) also got on the scoresheet.

Krang, who have lost all four games this season, scored via an own goal conceded by Mawpat’s Daniel Shadap in the 50th minute. This happens to be the second time in consecutive matches that Daniel has scored into his own net.

This victory takes Mawpat to the top of Group B with 7 points from three outings.

Earlier, Yash Kanwar (60′, 70′, 80′) netted a hat-trick for Gorkha Association with team mates Thomash (9′) and Aman Gurung (29′, 88′) also scoring. Lumdiengjri’s scorers were Desilva Pyngrope (32′) and Wallambok Buhsah (89′).

Like Krang, Lumdiengjri finish with 0 points after losing all four matches. Both sides, along with the teams that finish last in Groups A and D, will be relegated to next year’s Fourth Division.

The win helps Gorkha Assoc avoid the drop but they stay in fourth place in Group C as this was their first points of the season.

Tomorrow will witness Second Division matches with the next fixtures of the Third Division to take place on Tuesday.
