Shillong, Jan 24: Meghalaya began their U-23 Women’s One-Day Trophy campaign but lost out to Sikkim by 61 runs in Bhubaneshwar today.

Sikkim won the toss and chose to bat and made 217/6 in their 50 overs to which Meghalaya responded with 156/7.

Nine bowlers were used by Meghalaya, of which five picked up a wicket each – Solina Jaba (1/23), Riticia Nongbet (1/25), Luiza Tamang (1/28), Ajima Sangma (1/32) and Deiphibapynshngain L Mawnai (1/40).

In the chase Tamang top-scored with 37, while Mawnai chipped in with a quick 25 off 28 balls, but Meghalaya couldn’t quite keep up with the required run rate and fell short of the target.
